Christopher House’s Early Childhood Program is looking for an Infant Toddler Specialist for our Infant & Preschool, in the Belmont Cragin Community of Chicago. We are looking for a leader in the field with a proven track record of developing & supporting birth to three teaching staff. Experience managing high quality, best practice programs for infants and toddlers is highly desired.
Christopher House will provide a best practice environment that abides by the Continuity of Care practice. Continuity of Care allows teachers to work with children for up to three years in order to promote maximum development, while establishing lasting relationships with children and their families. We are looking for ambitious and reflective teachers and supervisors committed to their own professional growth in order to maximize their impact on child development and school readiness.
Position Objective: The Infant, Toddler and Two’s Specialist will determine needs and provide for the development of infants, toddlers and two year olds, act as a role model for teaching staff, and work to create a safe environment for children. This staff member will implement and maintain all components regarding infant, toddlers and two’s based on federal Early Head Start, state and local requirements.
Supervises: Master Teachers in the Infant, Toddler and Two’s rooms and support the full birth to three team. Supervises all site staff when Site Director is off-site.
Responsibilities: Provide technical assistance, advisement, support and role modeling to members of the Infant, Toddler and Two’s teaching staff in curriculum and developmental issues. Maintain knowledge in the field in order to develop professional skills.
Assist in the development of curriculum used in the infant, toddler and two’s classrooms and obtain appropriate educational materials for classroom use. Coordinate teacher meetings to ensure on-going cooperation among staff and to ensure individual teachers are working towards a unified approach to infant, toddler and two’s development; maintain a strong classroom presence. Ensure compliance with all curriculum related to funding and licensing requirements pertaining to the Infant, Toddler and Two’s program. Review lesson plans on a weekly basis, make any recommendations for needed changes and follow through on implementation of lesson plans. Meet with the teaching staff and the Nurse to ensure compliance to and an understanding of appropriate health and nutrition practices. Coordinate portfolio assessments of all children. Conduct classroom observations. Ensure that parent-teacher conferences are conducted twice a year and assist teachers in both preparation and conducting these conferences, as needed.
Quality Assurance: Actively seek to align programs with best practices or standards for high quality. Ensure on time and accurate collection of data using organization’s database and/or funder databases. Analyze data with team members to determine how to explain information related to findings and improvement strategies. Report findings to supervisor; make recommendations for improving quality of services and/or department’s outcomes system; ensure successful implementation department strategies. Use outcome findings to enhance organizations public image and promote programs to families, volunteers, funders and stakeholders.
Qualifications: Three to five years of direct experience working with Infant, Toddlers and Two Year olds, preferably in a Head Start and governmentally funded child care program. Supervisory experience is required. Bilingual skills in Spanish is preferred. Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
Education: Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field is required. Illinois Gateways Level 5 Infant Toddler Credential or eligibility for completion is required.
