Uniform Policy

At Christopher House Elementary School, scholars take pride in their appearance. Scholars are required to wear all components of the regulation school uniform each day. Uniforms are to be clean, well fitting, presentable, and in good condition (shirts are free of stains, all buttons on shirts and pants are intact, zippers on skirts and pants are working, etc.). Students must arrive to school in uniform and remain in their uniforms throughout the school day. A student who fails to meet the dress code guidelines may call home to retrieve the appropriate uniform.

Family Support Services

Christopher House believes that a parent is a child’s first teacher. We embrace this to support parents in creating healthy, stable home environments to support every scholar’s development – socially, emotionally, and academically – so that families may thrive. We engage our scholar’s parents and caregivers through holistic support services, including:

On-site Food Pantries

Christopher House offers a bi-monthly food pantry that supplies families with culturally inclusive fresh produce, dairy products and household items that are typically not covered through food assistance programs. Any Christopher House family can participate, and additional support is offered around the holidays through our Thanksgiving Pantry and annual Family-to-Family holiday giving program.

UIC Center for Literacy

Through our partnership with the UIC Center for Literacy, we offer a monthly worksop series for parents covering topics such as Employment Readiness, Family Literacy, Financial Literacy, and Community Resources. During the workshops, our caregivers have the opportunity to learn how to create a resume, cover letter, learn resilience skills and stress management, job search and network. The UIC Instructor is also available to connect with individuals to support their specific needs.

Positive Parenting

Dr. Ferney Ramirez – a bilingual psychologist who specializes in family mental health – hosts a monthly workshop with Christopher House families to discuss techniques for positive parenting with children to improve family relationships and communication.

El Cafecito

Elizabeth Duecker – teacher, writer, and motivational speaker – offers a monthly empowered women’s club for Christopher House mothers and caregivers. This brave space encourage women and mothers to come together, connect over shared experiences, and heal as a community.
